Looking back on the beginning of my massage career it’s normal to wonder what I might do differently if I could start over at age 23. Sharing with you my love of massage therapy and my struggles in hopes that you will learn from my mistakes and be further ahead in your career sooner than you imagined. I want to help massage therapists have a long-term and fulfilling career without the same mistakes I made. If you are a new massage therapist welcome to an incredible career with freedom, flexibility, the ability to help people feel better and make a difference while also earning an exceptional paycheque with earning potential. If you are an experienced massage therapist you probably know by now that it's never too late to start over or try new ways to enhance your career and your lifestyle. Here's a loving message from me to you! I hope you enjoy this episode!
MAKE YOUR SAVINGS A PRIORITY Save your hard earned money! We work hard and deserve to play hard but first you will need to live well but comfortably and within your means, don't forget to pay taxes hard and then you will want to retire hard right? So save now and you will always have money for your taxes, and your retirement life will be sweet! PRACTICE SELF-CARE TO PREVENT BURNOUT This is a formula that looks different for everyone but, I want you know a few pieces...You can take time off without guilt, you can set up systems that make your life and career easier, you can have energy for your own exercise, and you need to get treated-definitely massage but, do what you need to do for your body to feel good. PACE YOURSELF I know, you're young, excited to share your skills, full of energy and those dollars keep adding up (especially because you are saving). So what if you treat 8 clients a day, work weekends, or you do a last minute home visit for a friend? Your work ethic is admirable and if you have the first two points on repeat then I say go for it. SET BOUNDARIES NOW As healthcare providers we tend to give- a lot. Whether it's extending our day for the extra patient, coming in on a day off, or taking extra time after a treatment to teach remedial exercise. Setting those boundaries now without fear of loss and worry of what your patients may "think" of you will set you up for more work satisfaction, patient respect, and a feeling of peace when you take time off. MORE FROM THIS EPISODE Sharing from the heart because I know I could have made better choices. I don't regret a lot of things because I wouldn't be where I am today otherwise but I still know there are areas I could do better! I'm a girl who was told by my grandma that I have magic hands and so I became a massage therapist. I love reading in bed, the combo of peanut butter and chocolate anything, and working from my laptop or phone with my dogs by my side. My mission? To help other massage therapists own their awesome and do what they love every darn day! Even if that love is not massage therapy.
