HOW DOES THE DESIGN OF YOUR SPACE IMPACT YOUR SUCCESS? Sure, we can do our work from anywhere- but the patient experience and impression of your massage and skills begins as soon as the patient enters your physical workspace. First impressions matter because we are visual creatures and we take cues from our environment for our safety, trust, and let's face it- we want to feel good in a space- especially if we are about to get undressed. Your physical space says a lot about you as a practitioner whether we like it or not. Now is the opportunity to share who you are and what you represent without saying a word. It's important to step back and see your business through the eyes of your patient. Can you honestly say that your office represents your level of expertise, the type of patient you want to attract, and the energy you want to bring to your work everyday? If you have a hard time doing this ask a trusted friend, colleague, or even a patient to give you honest feedback. WHY IS YOUR CLINIC YOUR BIGGEST MARKETING EXPENSE? When we think of marketing our business we think of our website, business cards, and advertising. But our clinic should be part of our marketing budget and it should be the largest part! We can do everything to present ourselves externally to get the patient to take notice, book the appointment, and show up on time but once that patient enters your space you need to continue that experience and help them feel like they belong. They may have already made up their mind if they are going to be back before they even get on your table! The return on investment you will see from focusing on your space is often 10% or more according to Crossfields Chiropractic Design. Putting your space at the top of your marketing expenses will ensure you have the budget for upgrades as you build your practice. HOW OFTEN DO YOU NEED TO FRESHEN UP OR REDO YOUR SPACE? Design is not timeless and just like fashion - we recognize when a space is outdated. We can probably think of a few spaces that haven't been updated in a long time- and not in a way that feels "retro"! Trying to keep up with trends can be exhausting and renovations can be expensive- so what can you do to keep your space feeling fresh and updated? Design needs an update every 7 years (sometimes 10 if you have a classic style). The simplest thing you can do to make your space feel fresh again is to update the paint colour. This is an inexpensive way to bring new energy to your space. Other things you can consider if you have a small budget or very little control over your physical space is to look at lighting, sound, and smells of your workspace. As business owners we may feel like we have to do it all but it's important to recognize when professional help can save us time, money, and energy. Consulting with a professional designer even on the little things can make a big impact on our business! MORE FROM THIS EPISODE What should you look for when evaluating office space? FREE MEGA BUNDLE https://www.chiropracticofficedesign.com/rmt ABOUT Thirty years ago, Carolyn was faced with a hard decision: doctors wanted to remove her daughter's tonsils, but she was hesitant to have her two-year-old daughter undergo surgery at such a young age. Today, thanks to chiropractic care, Carolyn’s daughter still has her tonsils. The impact of that care on her daughter’s life would make Carolyn a lifelong advocate of holistic healthcare. In 2004, Carolyn and her husband co-founded CrossFields as a design-build firm in Atlanta, and in 2011 they changed their focus to improving the public’s perception of alternative medicine, and highlighting the power of holistic healthcare. CrossFields has helped hundreds of practitioners across the country expand their practices and reach higher levels of success by maximizing space, attracting and retaining patients, and saving money. I'm a girl who was told by my grandma that I have magic hands and so I became a massage therapist. I love reading in bed, the combo of peanut butter and chocolate anything, and working from my laptop or phone with my dogs by my side. My mission? To help other massage therapists own their awesome and do what they love every darn day! Even if that love is not massage therapy.
