What if the key to a longer, more enjoyable massage therapy career isn't more recovery... but more strength?
In this episode, I sit down with Registered Massage Therapist and strength coach Brandon Connerty to explore a topic that doesn't get nearly enough attention in our profession: building a strong body that can support the career you want.
Brandon shares how he went from treating 15 clients per week to nearly 30 clients per week while feeling stronger and more capable than ever. What started as a necessity during the pandemic turned into a realization that changed the way he thinks about massage therapy, fitness, and career longevity.
Together, we discuss:
  • Why being fully booked isn't the same as being maxed out
  • How strength training can increase your capacity as a therapist
  • Why recovery is important but may not be the complete answer
  • Practical ways to begin training for strength as a massage therapist
If you want more energy at the end of your workday, confidence in your body, and a sustainable path forward in your career, this conversation is for you.

TAKEAWAYS
  1. Stop relying on recovery alone
Recovery helps, but it doesn’t build capacity. You need strength to support your workload.
  2. Strength = more energy per treatment
The stronger you are, the less each massage takes out of you.
  3. Your body adapts… but also gets efficient (and lazy)
Doing the same workload doesn’t make you stronger — it makes you efficient at that level.
  4. Train for your job, not just for fitness
Massage therapy is repetitive and your training should balance that, not add more of it.
  5. Ask yourself: Fully booked… or maxed out?
There’s a difference between having a full schedule and having no energy left at the end of your day.
ABOUT

Brandon Connerty is an RMT and strength coach. During the pandemic he had to shift all of his business into massage therapy. Despite being 10 years into his career and doubling his bookings over night, he expected his body to break down or to burn out but it never happened. 5 years later he has been consistently doing 25+ hours of hands on work and he owes it all to being strong. He is now on a mission to help massage therapists have long and successful careers without fear of burning out or breaking down. He is striving to help MTs work as much as they want not as much as their body allows.
