We spend years learning techniques- but what about the moments that aren’t in the textbook?
In this episode, I chat with Pamela Fitch, RMT of nearly 40 years, educator, and author of Talking Body, Listening Hands, to talk about the gray areas of our career that rarely get taught.
We explore communication, ethical decision-making, and the “psychological interface” — the space where real-life practice actually happens.
Because being a great massage therapist isn’t only about your hands — it’s about how you communicate, how you hold boundaries, and how you protect your ability to stay in this career long-term.
Bring on the G.O.A.T Pam Fitch!

- Felt unsure how to handle an uncomfortable topic in the treatment room
- Struggled with boundaries when a client asks to see you socially
- Wondered how to build a long, sustainable career (how does 40 years sound?)

ABOUT
For close to 40 years, Canadian massage therapy educator, writer, researcher and long-time practitioner, Pamela Fitch, has explored professional, ethical and communicative challenges faced by manual therapists. She remains particularly interested in how massage therapy affects clients who have experienced trauma, post-traumatic stress and complex pain conditions.
A committed educator, she has been recognized with several awards for teaching. Her workshops explore ethical challenges, the massage therapeutic relationship, massage therapy and trauma, and the treatment of scars and she has presented widely across Canada, the US and beyond. Pam brings humour, openness and comfort "in the moment" to her presentations, able to pivot between lecture, small and large group discussions while thoughtfully responding to participant questions. Pam's dedication to transparent communication, integrity and respect ensure that even large groups feel cohesive and connected. CONTACTMENTIONED |
