We spend years learning techniques- but what about the moments that aren’t in the textbook?
In this episode, I chat with Pamela Fitch, RMT of nearly 40 years, educator, and author of Talking Body, Listening Hands, to talk about the gray areas of our career that rarely get taught.
We explore communication, ethical decision-making, and the “psychological interface” — the space where real-life practice actually happens.
  • Felt unsure how to handle an uncomfortable topic in the treatment room
  • Struggled with boundaries when a client asks to see you socially
  • Wondered how to build a long, sustainable career (how does 40 years sound?)
This episode will help you feel more clear, grounded, and confident in your role as a massage therapist.
Because being a great massage therapist isn’t only about your hands — it’s about how you communicate, how you hold boundaries, and how you protect your ability to stay in this career long-term.
Bring on the G.O.A.T Pam Fitch!

Not Harsh. Just Clear. Set Boundaries for a more sustainable career

TAKEAWAYS
  1. Your communication is part of your treatment.
What you say - and how you say it - shapes client safety and trust.
  2. Boundaries support better care.
Clear boundaries are not cold - they create clarity and protect both you and your client.
  3. You are allowed to feel safe in your practice.
If something feels off, it deserves attention - not dismissal.
  4. Ethical clarity is a skill you build over time.
You don’t need perfect answers - you need a framework to think through situations.
  5. Sustainability is built through small decisions.
The way you communicate, set limits, and advocate for yourself determines how long you stay in this career
