APPLE PODCASTS  | SPOTIFY

In this episode of The Radical Massage Therapist Podcast, I’m joined by manual therapist and movement educator Jenn Slade. Jenn shares her inspiring (and honest!) journey from wanting to attend medical school, to massage therapy to Structural Integration, and how it radically changed her understanding of the human body.

We talk about the role of fascia, her love of dissection labs, why mentorship is crucial when niching down, and what it really takes to shift your practice when your heart wants something more.

If you’ve ever felt pulled to explore a new path—or wondered if Structural Integration is for you—this episode is a must.

TAKEAWAYS
  • Get curious, not perfect. You don’t need to know every anatomical term to begin exploring advanced studies like dissection or SI. Let curiosity lead.
  • Mentorship matters. When transitioning into a specialized niche, having guidance from experienced practitioners is key.
  • Re-educate your clients. Changing your modality means changing expectations. Some clients will follow, some won’t—and that’s okay.
  • Respect the title. You can integrate what you learn into your practice, but don’t claim titles (like Structural Integrator) without the full certification.
  • Freedom comes from focus. Specializing can bring deeper fulfillment, stronger boundaries, and even better work-life balance—even if it feels financially risky at first.
